Romsey Rugby Club is thrilled to have successfully hosted and delivered its annual Burns Supper, held on January 25th, 2024. This cherished event, a cornerstone of our club’s calendar and key fundraising event, celebrated the life and works of the renowned Scottish poet, Robert Burns, in splendid fashion.

The Burns Supper 2024 was a night to remember, brimming with Scottish tradition, conviviality, and spirited revelry. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who attended, making the evening an unparalleled success. Our esteemed guests of honour were warmly welcomed, adding a special touch to the festivities.

Club Chairman and proud Scot, John Gray, says “‘Some hae meat a canny eat ’ as Robbie Burns Selkirk grace points out. The Romsey rugby club burns supper delivered plenty to eat and enjoy. Great food, a great ceilidh and great company with everyone who attended a thoroughly wonderful evening. A few sore heads were to be found the following day, I’m sure!  Thanks to all who organised and our sponsors and guests.”

This year’s event, generously supported by our sponsors, Anchor Maintenance and Parker Bullen, once again sold out, a testament to the enduring popularity and appeal of the Burns Supper at Romsey Rugby Club. We express our sincerest appreciation to our sponsors for their unwavering support, which contributed immeasurably to the event’s success.

Ian Paxton, Managing Director of Anchor Maintenance contributes: “We are thrilled by the success of Romsey Rugby Club’s Burns Night Event. The evening unfolded as a vibrant cultural celebration with exceptional food, camaraderie, and musical festivities. Grateful to all involved, we eagerly anticipate future events and continued community engagement. Ian Paxton, Anchor Maintenance.”

Karen Clarkson, Marketing & Business Development Manager at Parker Bullen, continues: ““As a growing firm in Romsey, we are always looking for new ways to engage with the local community and support events that bring together the organisations, individuals and their families that make up our vibrant and proactive town.  We were delighted once again to sponsor the Romsey Rugby Club Burns Night, to join in the festivities and raise money for charity while having fun!  We are very much looking forward to 2025.”

The culinary delights of the evening were expertly crafted by TWJ Catering, who treated attendees to a sumptuous four-course Scottish feast. Guests revelled in traditional Ceilidh dancing, expertly guided by the lively tunes of the Ceilidh Tree band. The libations flowed freely, with a splendid selection of whiskies and wines adding to the merriment of the occasion.

Highlights of the evening included spirited Burns recitals, characterized by a delightful blend of humour and theatrical flair. The stirring sound of the bagpipes added an air of authenticity and grandeur to the proceedings, transporting guests to the heart of Scotland’s cultural heritage.

Looking ahead, we are excited to announce that next year’s event is already in the diary, scheduled for Friday, January 24th, 2025. Save the date for another unforgettable evening of Scottish revelry and dancing at Romsey Rugby Club. Tickets will be launched soon on our Eventbrite page.
