Match Report Overton v Romsey 09/11/2024

November 12, 2024

9th November
Desire and Defence wins the game

On Saturday Romsey travelled to Overton despite the loss to Andover the last time out the squad were confident of getting back to winning ways but knew Overton were a tricky opponent.

A few changes before kick off with Jay Hodges pulling up injured in the warm up gave colt Dylan Argent a debut for the seniors starting in the back row.

Romsey raced out of the blocks putting Overton under a lot of pressure and took control of the game for the opening 10 mins, a faultless start just missing a score on the board to back up the great start.

Overton started getting into the game and looked to put the ball into the corners and maul over the whitewash however this young Romsey pack was up to the challenge and powerful counter mauling kept Overton at bay several times during the game.

Romsey then took back control of the game with two quick tries from Ian Milanak showing his pace as well as the power that we have seen countless times in his short rugby career.
The backs carried hard at every opportunity and looked dangerous with some strong carries from Ollie Soundy , Tyler Beardsley and Pierce Fouch which made many metres.

The key areas for this impressive win were the lads winning their individual battles out scrummaging a team known for a solid scrum and a “never say die” attitude in defence.

Coaches thoughts
The lads battled for every inch today and deserved the bonus point win The defence was massive today with 1 to 15 putting in a massive shift.
– Jason berry head coach

Captains thoughts
The Boys showed lots of heart playing with a bare 15, in years gone by Overton have been a bogey team for Romsey so it’s good to get a result, strong mentality and grit showed all around
– Harrison Scott captain

Man of the match was Lewis Cartledge
